Tomy Aquadoodle Desk - Written by Ben
We spotted this by chance while looking around The Entertainer in Wakefield, they had it for the bargain price of £11.99 so we snapped one up for Tommy as a Christmas present. - PLEASE NOTE THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED
They are still advertising it online for this price but currently appear to be out of stock, it is also available from a number of online stores.
“Combining no mess drawing with water, with a lightweight, stable foam board desk, your child can draw their own masterpieces over and over again.
The easy to assemble Desk comes with a double-sided Aquadoodle mat and the Desk top which can also be removed so that your child can continue to draw on their lap or on the go!”
All that is needed to use this after assembly is plain old tap water, there is no mess, and more importantly minimal clearing up after playtime.
Assembly - Instructions
The Assembly of this product is so simple, each piece of foam slots together so easily and creates a solid, light weight table for your child to draw on. The removable table top slots on to the top of the legs securely.
Using the product
once assembled the boss and I sat with Tommy and let him discover how easy Aquadoodle is to use.
other than the odd scribble with a crayon Tommy hasn’t really had much exposure to drawing, so to watch the realisation set in that by rubbing the pen on the coloured board made lines and shapes was brilliant, as was the confusion when he tried to use it on his hand the wall and the cream carpet and nothing appeared.
This product is so simple and it is this that makes it great for children to discover drawing and for parents to keep their sanity, no more worrying about crayon on the walls or felt tip on the carpet.
It is also a great tool for parents to educate children, we are using it to help Tommy learn shapes , objects and animals. At 18 months he is picking up words all the time so if we draw a circle and tell Tommy then get him to repeat and scribble over the top. Obviously this can be done with any writing implement on any surface, but the great thing about Aquadoodle is that the writing surface can be flipped over when full of doodles and by the time you’ve filled the other side it has dried ready to use again.
A great value toy that will keep your child entertained for hours, the whole Aquadoodle concept is amazing and although this is the only one we’ve used i think we will be trying out many more in the future. It is a product that will grow with your child from 18 months for scribbling and parent assisted learning (please note the recommended age for this is 3 years+ and we do recommend sticking to this ) to any age, even for grownups as a fun alternative to Pictionary!
